Long Live The Queen

Long Live The Queen

Long Live The Queen really is one of my favourite collections of the season. Hailing from Amsterdam in the Netherlands (also one of my favourite places, I very nearly moved there in my early thirties), Long Live The Queen's mission is to create beautiful fashion for girls that is responsibly produced  - they combine recycled materials with organic jerseys and soft knits to create easy-to-wear but super stylish clothing which we are delighted to now stock all the way up to 12 years of age.

Slow Fashion

Junior Edition is now 5 years old and, with the passage of time, we have become increasingly aware of the impact the fashion industry is having on both the planet and the people producing the clothing itself. Whilst we have always tried to make carefully considered choices, how we might be able to positively influence the future based on our decision making now has become increasingly important.

In more recent times we have started to adapt our buying practices, shifting focus to support, and bring, small volume artisan produced brands to our customers who have expressed a growing desire for 'Slow Fashion'.

Long Live The Queen!

Long Live The Queen!

We have welcomed a few new and really beautiful brands to Junior Edition this season. The absolutely gorgeous work of Dutch designer Hetty Van Driest and her brand Long Live The Queen has already become a firm favourite with us.

Now in their fifth season, Long Live The Queen SS20 is a collection of ethically produced and environmentally conscious girls clothing which we are stocking in ages 2-10 years. Made from up-cycled fabrics, organic jersey and super soft knits, all carefully selected to help reduce the footprint left behind.

Favourite pieces this season? Honestly, I love it all and if it came in adult sizes I would most definitely be wearing it. The puff sleeves are an absolute winner for me and are seen across several tees (in golden yellow and rose dawn) as well as the gorgeous short and long and sleeve terry sweaters which come in lavender, bronze, multicoloured stripes and green dots (short sleeved) and toffee and vintage blue (long sleeved).

I'm a sucker for short shorts (yes I was born in the 70's!) and terry too! Both the brown spots and multicoloured stripes shorts look great with their coordinating sleeveless tops with a ruffle collar. A beautifully practical combo that looks divine too!

Of the dresses, the candy stripe tiered maxi is a personal favourite. It can be dressed up to make the perfect party dress but looks equally as stylish with a pair of trainers and works really well layered with the short-sleeved lavender terry sweater.

I also really love the tie dye effect on the gorgeous off-white sweater, it takes me back to carefree summer days in Ibiza, wandering around the hippy markets, soaking up the sunshine and the atmosphere. What I would give to be there now! It's all turned rather cold here in Brighton again today. Still, summer is just about in our grasp and we've had a few really glorious spring days recently to help us on our way. I'll give it a couple of weeks before the kids beg me to roll out the paddling pool in the back garden!

There's so much more to see online, you can shop the full collection here. All of our shop staff have relocated to the warehouse for the time-being so online orders are being despatched in lightening quick time!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all of our wonderful customers!  Thank you so much for your custom, your friendship and your continuing loyalty through what has been a challenging year for us at times, it means everything to have you as part of the Junior Edition family!

We hope that like us you have enjoyed fabulous festive season, after the super hectic (but fun!) run-up to Christmas at the shop we had several blissful days off, at home surrounded by family with all our usual Christmas traditions and presents including Star Wars lego for Nathan - this year's Boxing Day Build was the AT-AT!

And so we return, excited to embrace 2020 and all the adventures it will bring. Believe it or not the online business turns five this year, FIVE!!!! Honestly, we can hardly believe it and thinking back to how the business was back in 2015, run from a spare room at home around a full time job, it's amazing to think how much has changed and how far we have come. Watch out for some exciting celebrations and discounts around our birthday time.

With the warehouse now really taking shape, we have been busy interviewing and hope to appoint an e-commerce and warehouse manager in the next couple of weeks. We are excited to be able to offer the online service we always intended in 2020 with a dedicated team managing orders and enquiries and the ability to help with measurements, print placement queries and anything else you might want to know! If you think this might be you, or you know someone that might be the perfect fit do let us know, the position is based just along the coast from our Brighton store in the harbour town of Newhaven.

We are PUMPED about the SS20 collections which kick off in the next couple of weeks, it looks set to be a really exciting season with lots of incredible pieces that we can't wait to show you.

We are also thrilled to announce that we will be welcoming a host of new brands to the Junior Edition family in 2020 including The New Society, Long Live The Queen, Caramel, Nellie Quats and Omibia as well as expanding our footwear lines with Pepe, Menorquines, Donsje and Saltwater joining Veja, Angulus, Hummel and Novesta.

Some exciting invitations have started landing with us in the last couple of weeks as buying season commences, including an invitation to the Fall/Winter 2020 presentation from The Animals Observatory in Paris at the end of the month. Excited? Much!?!

I just love the start of a new year, it's always filled with so much hope and enthusiasm for positive change. Here's hoping 2020 is kind to each and everyone of you, and a little bit fabulous too. Happy New Year!
