Blackwing Volume 11 - Bill Russell Collection. The Blackwing Volume 11 pays tribute to basketball legend Bill Russell, celebrating both his extraordinary career and his enduring legacy as a champion for equality. Each pencil in this limited edition set features Blackwing’s soft graphite core, ideal for smooth, dark lines suited to writing or sketching. The design includes a green and black barrel with Russell’s iconic number 6 subtly wrapped around it, paired with a black ferrule, green eraser, and gold foil-stamped number 11 to represent his record-breaking eleven championships.

The Blackwing pencil has a rich history dating back to 1934. In 2008, Palamino acquired the brand and began production of the Blackwing range as we know it today. Blackwing pencils are famously known for their quality of graphite and the unique softness and smoothness of their lead. The Blackwing pencil has an instantly recognisable semi hexagonal body and interchangeable eraser. The original 602 pencil single handedly inspired the works of some of history's greatest throughout the years. It is said that Disney animator Shamus Culhane asked to be buried with his Blackwing 602.

Blackwing pencils are high-quality graphite pencils known for their smooth writing, premium materials, and unique rectangular eraser. The brand was established in the 1930s by Eberhard Faber and was a favourite of many legendary creatives, most famously by writer John Steinbeck and animator Chuck Jones. Production ended in 1998 when the machine used to make the clips for the erasers broke down, and the remaining Blackwing pencils became highly sought after. The pencils were revived in 2010 by California Cedar Products. Claimed by many to be the best writing utensil in the world, Blackwing pencils are famous for the quality of graphite, iconic shape, replaceable eraser, and the men and women whose works they’ve inspired throughout the years.

In addition to the core line, Blackwing regularly releases special limited-edition pencils, known as Volumes, that feature unique designs honouring different cultural icons and movements.
