Blackwing Independent Bookstore Special Edition Pencil by Blackwing. Blackwing has once again partnered with Independent Bookstore Day to release a limited edition pencil for 2025—marking the fifth year of this highly anticipated collaboration. Created exclusively for independent bookshops, this annual edition has developed a loyal following, with each year’s release eagerly awaited by collectors and stationery enthusiasts alike.

This year’s design takes inspiration from the timeless charm of independent bookshops and the printed word, with a distinctive pattern, deep green palette, and gold detailing. Each pencil is made from genuine incense-cedar and features Blackwing’s signature firm graphite, ideal for both writing and sketching.

Packaged in a beautifully designed box of 12, this edition is available in limited quantities and only through independent retailers.

Blackwing pencils are high-quality graphite pencils known for their smooth writing, premium materials, and unique rectangular eraser. The brand was established in the 1930s by Eberhard Faber and was a favourite of many legendary creatives, most famously by writer John Steinbeck and animator Chuck Jones. Production ended in 1998 when the machine used to make the clips for the erasers broke down, and the remaining Blackwing pencils became highly sought after. The pencils were revived in 2010 by California Cedar Products. Claimed by many to be the best writing utensil in the world, Blackwing pencils are famous for the quality of graphite, iconic shape, replaceable eraser, and the men and women whose works they’ve inspired throughout the years.

In addition to the core line, Blackwing regularly releases special limited-edition pencils, known as Volumes, that feature unique designs honouring different cultural icons and movements.
