Misha & Puff SS20
Misha and Puff believe in making beautiful, functional pieces to last forever. Every day we create the world we want our children to live in. Everything counts. This is one way we contribute to that world.
Misha and Puff was founded in 2011 by Anna Wallack after her baby son spent his first New England winter keeping warm and cosy while swaddled head-to-toe in knits she had made. Drawing on over ten years experience as a stylist, as well as personal understanding of what works well for little ones, she created a collection that is special yet unfussy, a way to share our love of the thoughtfully designed and handcrafted.
Each Misha and Puff piece is lovingly hand knit in Peru by talented knitting ladies. Over the past few years Misha and Puff have forged a wonderful relationship working closely with their own group of knitters in Lima. The knitting work that they do for Misha and Puff either from their home or at Misha and Puff's knitting centre (which provides day care and meals) allows them to support their families. It is a true collaboration and the talent of each knitter never ceases to amaze. Each knitter takes great pride in the pieces she chooses to knit and you will find her name on the hang tag. When you purchase items from Misha and Puff you are contributing to this collaboration. Families working together to benefit everyone.
Misha and Puff work with the best natural fibres only. The hand dying process creates a beautiful depth of colour that you will not find anywhere. Their merino wool is incredibly soft, yet hard wearing - super soft and never itchy. It has excellent elasticity so it will maintain its shape, and grow with your child. Don’t be surprised if you get much more life out of your garments than expected. They will last and stretch. Wool also regulates body temperature - this is really important for babies and small children and they won’t overheat in wool as with synthetic fibres so you need not worry going from outside to inside - from car to stroller, to playground. Wool is breathable, and will wick moisture away from the body, keeping your child dryer and more comfortable. It is also naturally flame retardant. Merino wool in particular is also longer and stronger than other wools and less likely to pill - it looks great season after season and is strong, hard wearing, and practical. A few special Layette pieces in the collection are made of the softest baby alpaca - incredibly light and as soft as cashmere.
All cotton pieces in the Misha and Puff collections is pima cotton - cultivated to have to have extra-long staple fibres, making it luxurious, soft and strong and also very absorbent- a great choice for babies and children's clothing.
Misha and Puff source from the finest materials that use low impact, sustainable and ethical processes, employing artisans and craftspeople in a place rich with textile history. Misha and Puff work predominantly in Peru, where garments are made from start to finish, from fibre to garment. Keeping all the processes in one place strengthens the industry as well as cuts down on unnecessary resources spent shipping around the world. Misha and Puff strictly adhere to fair trade policies, paying a fair wage as well as being involved in the lives of our craftspeople. Many of the Misha and Puff knitters have been with them from the beginning and now are heads of groups, managing many other knitters. Misha and Puff have a knitting centre in a remote part of the city, yet close to the knitters homes. This allows them to drop by, collect yarn, get paid, and connect with other knitters. The centre also has an early education after school program, as well as offers meals for kids.
