One of very first things that drew me to Brighton (the sea aside) was how full of colour and creativity it is. It is such a vibrant city that has long attracted people working in the creative industries and we are lucky to be surrounded by some hugely talented people making the most beautiful things.

We have been fans of Stella Baggott, a Brighton based contemporary ceramicist, for quite some time now. Her playful, handcrafted homewares are both beautifully quirky and completely irresistible and it is with great delight that we welcome Atelier Stella to Junior Edition, both in-store and online.

Originally a ceramics hobbyist and formerly a successful children's book illustrator (whose work, if parents, you will almost certainly recognise), Stella's love of ceramics began upon attending evening classes in London. As her talent blossomed over the years, so did the interest in her work, eventually leading her to Brighton where she now lives and works having established a studio and showroom here.

Atelier Stella pots are lovingly designed and hand built by Stella herself from a simple slab of stoneware clay, sometimes combining slip cast orbs or pinch pots, before being fired in the kiln and lovingly hand glazed using a simple palette of whites, turquoise and blues. Stella plays with textures of overlapping glaze reactions and contrasting unglazed surfaces to create interest.

Influences from midcentury Cornish, Italian and Swedish potters - such as Bitossi and Stig Lindberg - can be keenly felt in her work but these gorgeous art-forms have a very modern feel.  Stylish and playful geometric shapes and forms combine with the rustic use of textural patterns to create useful objects for the home, so full of character that they bring whatever they are holding to life.

We have selected 13 pieces which we know you'll love.  From pots and planters to vases and candle holders, each beautifully unique and bursting with character. Production is small batch and the collection constantly changing so if there's a design you like don't leave it too long to get your hands on one!

These pieces make for such a wonderful gift...if you can bear to part with it once it reaches your possession...

Online and in-store now.
