Emperor penguin by Schleich.  Hand painted animal figurine by Scheich.  The Emperor Penguin is the largest and heaviest penguin species.  It is also unique for living so far south in Antarctica.  Emperor Penguins don’t build a nest, instead brooding directly on the ice.  After laying an egg, the female goes back to sea to hunt for fish, leaving the male to look after the egg.  He places it on his feet and incubates it under his abdominal crease.

Schleich products are made of various plastics and dyes, which are carefully selected to meet the respective requirements.  Most typically plastics used are polyvinyl chloride (PVC), thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), in addition to other plastics typical for toys.  Even the material suppliers are subject to strict controls by our quality officers. The dyes used are optimally adapted to the different types of plastic and demonstrate top-rate mechanical and chemical resistance.  They ensure the high durability of Schleich products and make all Schleich pieces saliva and sweat proof as well as abrasion-resistant, and thus ensure that they are completely safe for playing with. Only once a product meets fully all international laws, standards and guidelines for toys is it released for production.  All Schleich articles and materials comply with the national and international toy requirements applicable worldwide, as well as the new European Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC and DIN EN 71.
